I just got this tablet so I can't speak to longevity, etc., but as for first impressions, this is a really great tablet for the price.What I like: -Build quality seems excellent - really solid feel. -Micro SD slot for expansion is great. -Pretty much stock Android (I have used the Samsung version in the past, I found it almost unworkable). -Lots of RAM and a fairly fast processor means apps run quickly
On the negative side, it has cameras, though they are pretty low quality - good enough for Skype, etc., but won't beat your phone for pictures.
Overall, I would recommend.I will update after a while if anything goes wrong.
EDIT 11/7/2013: Just thought I would give an update about the Micro SD card reader, as I was a bit confused about it.On the Dell site, it says it is SDXC compatible, supporting up to 128GB (when they are available), but in other spots it says "a micro SD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage", which would imply it is not SDXC compatible.Well, tonight I put in a 64GB SDXC card, formatted to FAT32, and all 64GB were available.Copied files from my desktop onto the card, and the Venue was able to read them no problem.So that is a very nice feature if you have a lot of movies, music, etc you want to lug around with this tablet.
I'm not an expert in tablets subjects, this is the second one (the first one was a Matricom and I owned for 2 days) that replaced the first one because it had the battery damaged.
I have like a month or so with this little thing and I couldn't be more satisfied, the performance it's excellent, I mean I can't complain not having other point of comparison and I'm not fan of apple, yet I'm somewhat special with my gadgets and this one has been pretty solid in the matter of performance. I use it mostly for web surfing, occasional gaming and some homework (I downloaded a Office like app) and works perfect.
The sound, size and screen definition/sensibility are just what I wanted. I've watched some movies on Netflix at max volume and without saturation problems in the speakers, they are pretty loud though and the screen definition, I wouldn't say HD yet it's so good I can't complain. The size it's just what I wanted something pocket size like and 7" is the size
In the battery department I'm not that happy in the charging time, it is not constant (at least is what I think) sometimes it takes more hours to charge the same % but the max time it's about 4 hours. In the other hand is the battery life which I can't say nothing but perfect. I has spend up to 3 days in standby (sometimes I don't need it for a while) and when I decide to use it I found the pleasant surprise that it has about 48% of charge so, what can I say? In performance mode I've been able to watch several episodes of series in a row or 2 movies without a problem and yet having extra charge to do some web surfing.
This is a great tablet overall at least in my opinion It has fulfilled my curiosity and expectations as a new tablet owner
I liked most everything about this Dell Venue 7 with 16 GB internal storage except the fact that none of the applications can be put on the SD memory card.This caught me by surprise and was very disappointing.Dell doesn’t let you know this within any of the literature.I feel I wasted money on the 32 GB SD memory card that I purchased.
I already had an Android Samsung phone and about 80% of my applications are stored on the 16 GB memory card that I added to it.So of course I figured I would be doing the same on this Dell 16 GB tablet by off-loading many of the applications to my new 32 GB SD card.I take away a star for this, since knowing that would have been a deal breaker for me.The SD card is reduced to personal storage only, like music, pictures and video.
The 1.2 MP front and 3 MP no flash rear cameras aren’t very good.My inexpensive Smartphone takes better pictures.If the camera is important to you, you can step up to the Venue 8” for about $30 more.It has a 5 MP camera and the rest is the same as the Venue 7..
That aside, there are many great things about this tablet.I’m very happy with the speed.The Dual Core Intel Atom runs fast.Some competitors have quad processors, yet they have serious speed issues.The 7” 1280x800 HD display is fine for me for watching HD movies and TV.It is all I needed.I knew I was not buying a $400-$500 tablet.
The Dell was the only tablet in this budget price range that I found to have 2 GB of RAM for execution instead of 1 GB.It does multi-task well.The Venue 7 OS came with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 but within the first two weeks, it updated itself to Kit-Kat 4.4.2.
I picked the Dell Venue as best value in the 16 GB units, over Nexus, Samsung, Hannspree, Acer and Lenovo.I only recommend this tablet to those that understand that they must put all apps in the 16 GB provided.If this is not good enough, you’ll have to spend much more for a model with built in storage of 32 GB.Or pick a vendor that does allow apps on the SD card.
