How did you come up with the idea for this product?
The goal was to create something that is more than simply a pen case. PenSe is a “functional case” for the Apple Pencil. By definition a functional case keeps a product safe, especially while it’s in use. PenSe is a simple device that protects Pencil and its components from damage and loss.
What makes your product special?
Each PenSe is machined from a single piece of cold rolled aircraft grade aluminum. Its design is strong, abrasion resistant, and easy to grip. PenSe keeps Pencil safe while preserving the look and feel of an Apple product. We can honestly say that PenSe makes Apple Pencil and its experience better. Added grip, weight and balance allow for a greater degree of control. With PenSe it’s astonishing how much more productive Apple Pencil becomes.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
Being able to work with locally and being involved in each step. Every major component is machined, finished and assembled in Massachusetts, all within a few miles of where the product was originally conceived and designed. It has been a big learning experience for us all and PenSe gets better every day, we are still amazed at how many people pre ordered PenSe! Within 6 months we sold thousands of pre-sales PenSes. When buyers say things like, “Apple should be paying you for making a good product great one.” well, it’s huge… and such a big compliment!
