1. About Fluid | Aluminum Zinc Flexible Anode Rod KIT for Water Heaters | INCLUDES1-1/16" DEEP WELL SOCKET | Brass Cap | Teflon Tape | 44 Inches Long | GETS RID OF STINKY ROTTEN EGG SMELLING WATER!
Feature
- FITS: Almost all water heaters including
- Rheem, Reliance, Richmond, Kenmore, State, GE and many more that also use the standard ¾” NPT Anode Rod Connection. The INCLUDED 1-1/16” Deep Well Socket will fit and remove your old anode rod and install your new anode upgrade. You can be certain that you won’t have any leaks by using the INCLUDED Full Roll of Pipe Sealing Teflon Tape. The Large Roll of Teflon Tape leaves you with plenty left over for the next time you check your anode rod’s condition.
- GET RID OF THE EMBARRASSING ROTTEN EGG SMELL IN YOUR HOME with our Aluminum / Zinc Anode Rod! Did you know that the magnesium anode rod inside your hot water tank is the number one key contributor to the production of your smelly, hydrogen sulfide gas? About Fluid solved this problem by creating a flexible anode rod made from an Aluminum/Zinc Alloy, instead of magnesium. This unique alloy works everyday, controlling and killing the bacteria responsible for the sulfur and rotten egg smelling gas.
- LEARN FROM PROFESSIONALS using our Easy-To-Follow, Step-by-step instructions. Our Licensed Plumbers and Instructors have decades of experience. They gathered together and documented exactly how they install anode rods, and we have included every step in our manual. Our Instructions are written by Plumbers and translated for everyday problem-solvers like you. The Brass Cap is there to place on your drain, after you’re done, just to be certain your floors are always dry.
- WATER HEATER INSTALLED IN A TIGHT SPACE? Even if your water heater is located in a small or tight space, this 44 Inch-long rod is hinged into four segments, less than 12 Inches long each. Each segment can be easily lowered, one-by-one, into your water heater. If the over-all length is a little too long(rare cases), just safely cut it shorter with a simple hacksaw. All you provide is a ½ Inch Ratchet or Breaker Bar, a few common hand tools, a friend and your favorite beverage! (not included).
- CHANGE THE ANODE ROD, NOT THE WATER HEATER.The anode rod in your water heater is designed to decay instead of your Water’s Heater Tank itself. Eventually, the anode rod is completely consumed (usually just before your water heater warranty is up) and the Water Heater Tank begins to decay and ultimately rusts, fails, cracks and leaks. This is why maintaining the anode rod (by checking and or replacing every 2 years) in your water heater insures the anode rod decays, and not your water heater!

- WATER HEATERS BURST AND YOU CAN PREVENT THIS! I began my plumbing apprenticeship in the 90s. The plumbers I worked for would say “they must place a self-destructing device in water heaters, timed to go off just after the warranty is over,” then shake their heads as we dragged a 7-year-old, rusty-sludge-spewing water heater away to the nearest recycling center. The plumbers weren’t entirely wrong, they just got it backwards. Next>
- WHAT I’VE LEARNED: Manufactures install an anode rod in every water heater at the factory because they know their tanks will quickly rust and fail without one. The anode rod takes the destruction from a chemical process called electrolysis so the tank doesn’t have to. If the water heater has a 6 year warranty, the Anode Rod is sized to last about 5 years in laboratory conditions. Longer warranties on water heaters come with a new decal for the outside of the tank and a slightly larger Anode Rod.
- CHANGING THE ANODE ROD IS EASY, REPLACING YOUR WATER HEATER IS NOT! Anodes are designed to be easily and regularly replaced. Their only purpose is to decay instead of your water heater, and that’s exactly what it will do. As soon as the anode rod is depleted and fully decayed, the water heater begins to rust, then crack, fail and leak. Inspecting and changing your anode rod every 2 years will keep your water heater’s tank, strong reliable and off your mind!

7. Blue Lightning Aluminum / Zinc Flexible Anode Rod, Hex Plug, 42"
Description
If you have smelly hot water this rod is for you!! The zinc in this anode rod is designed to combat odor that comes from your hot water tank. Often times when well water is used H2S builds up causing a rotten egg smell to come from your hot water. Zinc counteracts this natural process and eliminates unwanted odor. This is the Hex Plug model of the Blue Lightning Aluminum Flexible Anode Rod. This model has a length of 42 inches, a diameter of .75 inches, and 3/4-14 NPT thread size (This sizing is standard for all modern residential water heaters). The rod is broken down into four separate segments. Each segment is Aluminum / Zinc alloy on a steel rod core. The segments are attached via copper or stainless steel couplers and 301 stainless steel braided wire. All of our Anode Rods are lead-free! In most cases, we recommend our Magnesium version of the Blue Lightning Rod but sometimes magnesium can have a hard time standing up to harsher water conditions. Aluminum is best to use when you know your water is hard and you have experienced rapid deterioration of your previous anode rod. Aluminum rods are also best to use if you use a water softener. The Blue Lightning Aluminum/ Zinc Anode Rod should be checked on an annual basis and in most cases replaced every other year depending on the rate of deterioration. ***NOTE*** Always flush and clean your tank before installing the new rod to kill off and eliminate old bacteria build up. Doing so will significantly improve the performance of the rod and improves the overall effectiveness of your preventative maintenance. If this rod does not eliminate your odor than you may have more serious issues than an anode rod can remedy. If your water quality issues persist after thoroughly sanitizing your tank and replacing your anode rod we recommended contacting your local plumbing professional.

- WATER HEATER: Hot water tanks are made of steel which is very corrosive when exposed to water
- The inside of water heaters are coated with porcelain to prevent the steel from being exposed to water
- There are always small cracks in the porcelain that can allow water to meet with steel

Description
Most water heater tanks are steel with a thin porcelain lining to protect the metal from corrosion. Since the lining eventually cracks, tanks have a second line of defense against rust, a long metal anode rod that attracts corrosive elements in the water. Water is naturally corrosive and becomes even more corrosive when it is heated. Protect your water heater from rust with the U.S. Solid Anode Rod, which is threaded to match all suburban model water heaters.
An anode rod also known in the industry as the “sacrificial lamb” is made of magnesium. Due to the position of magnesium to steel in the electromotive series of metals, the magnesium will corrode, producing an abundance of electrons which flow to the exposed steel surface and maintaining it in the electro-negative state. As current flow takes place, the anode rod reacts chemically to corrode at a rate faster than the steel inner tank. In less technical terms, the magnesium anode rod will corrode faster than the steel hot water tank. The anode rod corrodes faster than the steel in the tank, prolonging the life of your hot water heater.
